Start with top quality seafood served in a casual, relaxed atmosphere,
add terrific service and a dedication to catering to families,
and you have Milepost 5's recipe for success. Owners Mark and
Cheryl Fulghum, along with General manager Joyce Luebbe, all frequent
visitors to the Outer Banks, wanted to open a restaurant which
would capture the feel of dining in that area, namely a place
where diners could come as they were and enjoy great, fresh seafood.
The impressive regular clientele which Milepost 5 has attracted
over their three years in business is a testament to their success
in bringing this vision to life.
While
the basic concept of the restaurant is enticing, it is the execution
of this idea which keeps people coming back. The menu consists
of relatively simply prepared seafood entrees, pastas, salads,
and sandwiches, plus daily specials. While seafood will never
be cheap, Milepost 5 offers a god value, particular in relation
to the large portions.

The enthusiasm of the staff, from the top on down,
plays a large role in the success of Milepost5. The staff, many
of whom have been with the restaurant from the start, go out of
their way to make diners feel welcome. Joyce Luebbe spends most
of her time in the dining rooms talking to customers, at times
while refilling water glasses or brining out meals. Customers
comments have led to a number of specials being added to the regular
menu. Joyce takes particular pride in Milepost 5's service to
families, noting that their staff is very good with children.
They have a special kid's menu, which they redesign frequently
to keep the kids entertained. Kid's meals are served on a Frisbee,
which the kids can take home with them. The color of the Frisbees
changes frequently to keep their younger regulars, many of whom
have started collections.
Milepost
5, located in Sycamore Square, is open Monday - Thursday 11AM
- 10PM, and Friday - Saturday 11AM - 11PM. In addition to their
two dining areas, they also have a private room available for
parties of meetings.
